January 10, 2012 – Des Moines, Iowa – The Tomorrow Plan – Greater Des Moines’ effort to create a vibrant and enduring future – seeks public feedback on the project’s first major outcome: A scenario that pictures the metro in 2050 if we continue with “business as usual.”
The public is invited to participate in one of three upcoming sessions:
- January 31, 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm at the Eastside Senior Center, 1231 East 26th Street, Des Moines
- February 1, 11:30 am – 1:00 pm at the Des Moines Public Library (Central Branch), 1000 Grand Avenue, Des Moines
- February 2, 7:30 – 9:00 am at Urbandale City Hall, 3600 86th Street, Urbandale
Admission to each session is free, and light refreshments will be served at no charge.
Each meeting will include a presentation about the baseline model, which projects what Greater Des Moines land use could look like if the region follows historic development patterns, and plenty of time to talk about what this means. The goals of these sessions are to discuss the key outcomes of the “business as usual” situation and to gather public input on potential alternative future scenarios.
The study of the metro’s present state and possible future has included national consultants, hundreds of metro residents, and many organizations throughout the region working in association with The Tomorrow Plan.
The Tomorrow Plan brings together all 17 cities and four counties of the Greater Des Moines metro along with a number of other public and private entities to map the path to a sustainable future for our region. The Metropolitan Planning Organization secured initial funding of $2 million for this project through the federal Sustainable Communities Regional Planning Grant Program.
A major goal of The Tomorrow Plan is to engage a wide range of people in meaningful public participation. Each and every citizen of the Greater Des Moines region should be involved in shaping the area’s future. Please join us at one of these key sessions January 31 through February 2.
